Chelsea was born and raised in Vancouver. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Medieval Studies) and Masters of Arts (Medieval History) from the University of Victoria and shocked everyone in her life by making a practical choice (at last) and completing her law degree at the University of British Columbia.
Chelsea received her law degree from UBC in 2002 and articled at a law firm in downtown Vancouver before joining Ron Eichler after being called to the Bar in 2003. She has experience running trials at the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia, and has prepared appeals to the Court of Appeal of British Columbia. She has also represented clients at Employment Standards Branch hearings and WCB proceedings.
Chelsea’s areas of practice include employment law, personal injury and wills and estate planning.
Chelsea is an accomplished musician and has acted as a supervising lawyer with the Law Students Legal Advice program for four years. She enjoys running reasonable distances with her small dogs, being as active as humanly possible, and reading. Ron Eichler
Ron grew up in Montreal and Ottawa, receiving his Bachelor of Commerce from Carleton University before making the (very sensible) decision to move west to attend the University of British Columbia for his law degree.
After receiving his law degree from UBC in 1996, Ron articled at a law firm in New Westminster, where he was trained in all areas of litigation, including: personal injury, insurance defense, collections and business disputes. After his call to the Bar in 1997, Ron joined the Federal Department of Justice, where he practised for two years before moving to a downtown law firm to focus on commercial litigation, employment, insurance defense and construction law. In 2002, Ron opened his own practice and was joined by Chelsea Caldwell in 2003.
Ron has spent the last ten years helping clients clarify their goals and acting to carry out their wishes. He is an experienced litigator who has run trials at all levels of Court in British Columbia, as well as the Federal Court (Trial Division) and the Federal Court of Appeal He has extensive experience with Employment Insurance appeals and has also acted for clients at the Residential Tenancies Board, Employment Standards Board, Real Estate Commission and Financial Institutions Commission. Wills & Estates - Powers of attorney
Recently, the Supreme Court of British Columbia held that a power of attorney gave a child the ability to create an estate, effectively forcing an application for probate and payment of thousands of dollars of fees where none had been contemplated. What does this mean for people making wills and planning for incapacity?
- Make sure you only give a power of attorney to a person you trust with all your money and possessions.
- If there is any dispute between your spouse and children, make sure you have given clear directions to both, and make sure you have destroyed any prior powers of attorney which might confuse your family.
- Contact your lawyer, discuss your concerns and make sure the power of attorney you have won't lead to litigation, delay and expense.
